Here’s how to join the crowds on Sunday, August 11, for Fierté Montréal Festival’s annual Pride Parade…
*This page will be updated with any new information or changes. Queer parties will be hosted at Club Soda and the SAT, while the NFB will present a cinema program. (There is free admission to all events on the Esplanade of the Olympic Park!)
“This year, our Festival will be organized around three hubs – Urban, Olympic, and Village – allowing us to show our pride in the diversity that unites us to a growing audience,” says Simon Gamache, Executive Director of Fierté Montréal. Chris Ngabonziza, Director of Programming and Artistic Development, adds: “Last count, our stages will present a whopping 240 artists, from a wide spectrum of sexual and gender diversity, as well as racialized communities, a true reflection of our city.
It displays the community's solidarity, strength, and respect for basic human rights. One of the biggest, catering to primarily gay guys who love circuit music, is the Love Festival, which hosts four parties from August 8 to 11. With go-go dancers, DJs playing classic queer anthems and house tracks, and an array of projections across the dome, expect plenty of pleasure indeed.

In August the streets of downtown Montréal will be bustling with people, music and floats as thousands come out to participate in the annual Fierté Montréal Festival Pride Parade on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Montreal has had shifting venues, a nighttime parade and, in 2022, no parade at all, due to organizational difficulties.
In fact, Festival Fierté Montréal is, by North American Pride standards, a relatively young organization.
Saint-Laurent, Montreal).
- The Olympic hub is in Olympic Park Esplanade (4141 Av. Pierre-de Coubertin, Montreal) in the city’s east end. Even though events are spread around downtown, the distances between them are not big and it will be easy to get from event to event by transit. Also included in the Urban hub are club nights both weekends at Club Soda (1225 Boul.
It will feature free shows on big stages by various communities under the rainbow banner, including drag artists of Black, African and Caribbean descent; a LatinX evening; a Bollywood event; queer Asian communities showcasing martial arts; and an evening, called FeminX, dedicated to women of sexual and gender diversity, featuring Montréal’s legendary Misstress Barbara.
But I think we’re doing a pretty good job at that,” says Chris Ngabonziza, Fierté’s director of programming and artistic development.
What does that mean for visitors?
The official 2024 festival will be organized around three hubs, and roughly divided into a first weekend and a second weekend:
- The Urban hub is located in downtown’s Quartier des spectacles, the district around the gigantic Place des Arts complex; it’s the first time Fierté has used these venues.
The Village’s bars and clubs, of course, will be hosting their own events. The parade route is 2.5 km long and begins in the former Gay Village in the downtown west end, running along René-Levesque Boulevard from Metcalfe Street to Alexandre DeSève Street in the heart of the current Village in the east. “Why create new dance parties, for example, when we can partner with other collaborators in the queer scene who already have a following?” While representing the many subcultures within the community has been a priority, he’s also been emphasizing “classics” like the parade and the huge tea dance on the final Sunday.
Make sure to head there early to get a good lookout spot for the parade and please remember to bring water, sunscreen and even food to help get you through one of the biggest North American Pride Parades.
