The city's touristy feel also means it's more accepting of diverse people and cultures—they might just think you're European!
Gay scene in Santa Barbara
There isn't a specific gay area in Santa Barbara, but there are places that welcome everyone. Don't forget to explore the wide variety of draft beers available. But on most days, this stylish venue mainly attracts heterosexual customers.
It's always supportive of the LGBTQ+ community, as a sponsor of Santa Barbara Pride.
Hitching Post Restaurant
Made well-known worldwide after being featured in the unique movie tribute to Santa Barbara Pinot Noir called Sideways, the well-respected Hitching Post II restaurant in Buellton (406 E. Hwy. 246, 1.5 miles east of U.S. 101 Lompoc/Solvang exit, 805-688-0676), close to the U.S. 101 highway, has been famous for its wine selection and "cornfed Midwestern beef" steaks for many years.
The meats like steaks, chicken, ribs, ostrich, and more are cooked on an open oak-wood fire, a tradition from the early Spanish settlers in the area.
The town has a gay club called Wildcat Lounge, which hosts gay nights on Sundays.
Weekends are the busiest times.
#2. Make sure to try the Umbra pizza with robiola cheese, crimini mushrooms, and Umbrian black truffles - it's a favorite at the pizzeria!
Olio e Limone is a stylish place that serves fancy dishes like eggplant souffle with goat cheese and tomato basil sauce made fresh, busiate carbonara (Sicilian spiral pasta, guanciale egg, parmesan, and black pepper), and veal scaloppine with artichoke hearts and lemon sauce.
If you want a relaxed and spontaneous lounge experience, check out the trendy Olio Crudo Bar.
It's a great place to hang out while waiting for a table at the main restaurant. You won't find any gay bars specifically, but you'll see some lesbians and gay men at most lounges and clubs nearby. Anything you choose will be good, but I recommend chorizo gorditas, pozole stew, marinated-pork tacos, and guacamole. Wildcat is located just west of State Street, the main street in this fancy resort town.

A good sandwich depends on its ingredients, and Panino uses high-quality, fresh meats, artisan breads, and tasty spreads.
The Los Olivos branch of Panino is located in downtown at "the Flagpole" where Grand Avenue meets Alamo Pintado Avenue. It's a bit tricky to get to as you'll need to walk down a bluff, next to train tracks, and through sandy terrain.
Nearby Montecito is known for its celebrity residences, housing notable figures such as Prince Harry and Megan, Oprah, Rob Lowe, Drew Barrymore, and Christopher Lloyd.
Due to its focus on tourism from the beginning, Santa Barbara has numerous options for visitors to enjoy. There are plenty of wines priced under $30. However, the trendy Wildcat Lounge in downtown (15 W.
Ortega St., 805-962-7970) has always been popular among the LGBT community, particularly on Sunday nights. The Wildcat features a dance floor, lounge seating, red walls, top DJs, live bands, and a great cocktail menu. Santa Barbara is a great food destination, showcasing its long Mediterranean-style growing season, fresh seafood, and top-rated wineries.
Check out some of the best bars (listed first), as well as popular restaurants and cafes that gay travelers enjoy in Santa Barbara and the surrounding Wine Country.

La Super-Rica Taqueria
Let's talk about it: the late Julia Child, a famous cook, used to praise La Super-Rica Taqueria, a simple Mexican restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara. If you can't wait for a table or prefer a more formal atmosphere, you can drive to East Beach on Milpas Street, which is less than a 10-minute drive away.

But that doesn't automatically make it the top taqueria in California or even in town.
