“He really was. I follow several Michigan history pages on Facebook, and with a tip of the hat to a former Detroit (Free-Press, Michigan Chronicle) journalist who goes by "Bhunt" and whose account is "Detroit Griot", he sent me on a journey to the East side of Detroit.
This area is unfamiliar to me, not having grown up in Detroit, so I'm really enjoying the classic architecture from the early to middle part of the last century.
Although the Bagley Community is now, like the rest of the city, majority black, the community continues to welcome all people, rather owning or renting to help us continue the desirable, sought after quality of life Bagley provides.
Today, the Bagley Community remains a “bedroom” community to the professionals working in the City or in surrounding suburbs by offering a great quality of life to raise a family.

Creech’s parents divorced in the late 1960s, but when her father became ill a few years ago, he came to live with them once again.
“My parents were living under the same roof for the first time in 47 years,” she says.

His name was Marvin Gaye.
Gaye, then on the brink of superstardom with “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” had grown weary of the stale formula Motown prescribed for him and was tired of being known as the label’s sex symbol.
“I was like, ‘Come on, man!’”
But Gaye wasn’t joking.
“So we jump in the car and head on down to Motown,” Barney says. And one of the commenters said that was her dance teacher's home, too. During a heated argument, Marvin ended up being shot through the heart and killed by his own father. He was a founding member of the Republican Party and served as governor of Michigan from 1873 to 1877.
The Bagley Community gained a substantial Jewish population beginning in the 1940s, when racial covenants were no longer enforced and synagogue Adat Shalom (now Bailey Cathedral, Church of God in Christ) was built on Curtis a block west of Livernois.
African-American families began moving into the Bagley Community in the 1960s.
I think if he would’ve started playing sooner, he might’ve had a shot.”
But Gaye’s dream of NFL stardom was not to be.
