There are all sorts of wondrous creatures in the galaxy far, far away in which the Star Wars saga is set, and yet the one thing that seems to be lacking are queer people—which you will undoubtedly agree with me are actually quite ordinary and should probably appear more often than they do.
In all of the Star Wars canon—especially the new Disney-era canon—the number of LGBTQ+ characters that have appeared on screen (or in the pages of books) are few and far between.

No, Luke Skywalker isn't canonically gay in Star Wars, but he also isn't canonically straight; instead, he is an iconic character almost universally beloved, and this aspect of his story can be decided on an individual level. It seems obvious that the original plan was for Luke, Leia, and Han Solo to be a love triangle, but, much like Rey and Ben Solo's kiss in the sequels, Star Wars has tried to walk that back.
Star Wars has already muddied the waters regarding what really happened between Luke and Leia.
After all, Leia's assertion that she 'always knew' Luke was her brother in Return of the Jedi makes it difficult to accept that their kiss in The Empire Strikes Back was romantic, even if it certainly seemed to be at the time.
