Nevertheless, the producers seem to be playing it safe, tossing out an in-passing mention that LGBTQ people exist but never showing them, and doing so in an episode that centers a straight wedding, a hefty counterbalance to the speck of queerness. We see the wedding preparations in Bluey’s backyard, then a threat to the engagement when Frisky gets mad at Rad for making a major decision that affects her without consulting her (which feels like a self-centered, sexist move).

A partial list includes Peppa Pig(Netflix), Rubble & Crew, (Nickelodeon), Cocomelon Lane (Netflix), Ada Twist, Scientist (Netflix); Princess Power (Netflix), Ridley Jones (Netflix), We Baby Bears (Cartoon Network), Firebuds (Disney Junior), Dino Ranch (Disney Junior), Eureka! Enter Uncle Rad and Bluey’s godmother Frisky. “I love the idea of caricaturing an Australian wedding from the kid’s point of view,” he said.

Another update sending fans into a frenzy is the addition of four new voice talents in “The Sign,” most notably Australian star Joel Edgerton, though further details about his role remain unknown.

When the couple appeared together in Hawaii on a FaceTime call, confirming that they’d continued dating after the babysitting gig, fans lost their collective mind. (Indeed, some coverage of the episode, like that at The Conversation, has focused entirely on the wedding and not mentioned Pretzel and his mums at all.) Disney didn’t even make a still of Pretzel available to the press.

Despite that, at least one anti-LGBTQ journalist is already casting aspersions at the show.

“Jay [Cutler] put it […]

Also returning in “The Sign” is Rose Byrne, who plays Bluey’s aunt Trixie. Additionally, Pretzel is only an occasional character, having appeared in just 13 of the series’ more than 150 episodes, according to the Bluey Wiki. Cavallari, who starred on MTV’s Laguna Beach and The Hills, opened up about how her three children, Camden, Jaxon and Saylor, discovered the shows.

Were Frisky and Rad engaged, or had they actually eloped?

Bluey’s Uncle Rad will finally marry his sweet girlfriend, Frisky, and fans are not OK. The network even sent out a wedding invitation for the event, encouraging fans to save the date.

The slyly sophisticated series, about a 7-year-old blue heeler puppy of the same name, has slowly grown into a cult hit for adults, from parents of toddlers to childless dog owners.

Margie also pointed out the subtitles show the plural 'mums' not the word 'mum', further confirming Pretzel has same-sex parents. (Bluey’s animators use colors that dogs can see.)

Up until now, most episodes run for a kid-friendly eight minutes, but on April 14, a 28-minute episode titled “The Sign” will premiere globally.

Instead, as the show’s official website notes, the episode focuses on “the wedding of the year” between Bluey’s Uncle Rad and her godmother Frisky. But he didn’t.” The class gives a sympathetic “Awww.”

That’s the extent of the reference.

It's the only thing Bluey was missing.'

'I picked up on this but I needed to point it out to my wife. The teacher opines that it’s because “life will give us enough sad ones.” Classmate Pretzel then offers the example of when his guinea pig ran away.

Why Cartoon Bluey’s Upcoming ‘The Sign’ Episode Is the Biggest TV Wedding of the Year

The most anticipated wedding of 2024 is happening on Bluey, a cartoon for children — and dogs.

Bluey’s growing legion of adult fans is over the moon that two of the series’ regular characters will tie the knot in an upcoming half-hour episode of the animated Australian show, now streaming on Disney+.

'I love it, I think it was a really nice and organic way to do it.

The beloved Australian cartoon introduced the queer couple in a 'blink and you'll miss it' moment

In the season three final titled 'The Sign' some viewers noticed a subtle hint that Bluey's friend Pretzel (pictured centre) has two mums.

To include a mention of a kid with two moms in such an episode feels like a significant statement of LGBTQ inclusion in the Blueyverse—as long as it’s not the only one ever.

The Larger Landscape

Although there have been rumors that the extra-long episode heralded the end of the series, Bluey producer Sam Moor has told BBC Radio 4 that the show will be returning.

A few minutes into the episode Pretzel said: 'When my guinea pig ran away, my mums told me he might come back, but he didn't'

Describing it as a 'blink and you'll miss it' moment, Margie said she too didn't notice it at first. They’re basically saying that it’s wrong to even acknowledge that some kids have LGBTQ parents.

The show should instead be commended for taking this step.
